2014 Handmade Holidays Blog Hop

Handmade Holidays 2014 Hop Logo
Welcome to the final day of the 4th Annual Handmade Holidays Blog Hop! We hope you enjoyed the projects from the last 2 days! A few years ago we were looking online for handmade gift ideas and thought it would be great if there was a resource dedicated JUST to handmade gift ideas. Enter the Handmade Holidays hop! We've gathered over 100 of our creative blogger friends in the craft industry as well as some of our fellow product manufacturers to bring you a plethora of inspiring gift ideas you can make now to give to your friends, family, and colleagues. Pin and bookmark these ideas for this holiday season and to use throughout the year! Each day of the hop features approximately 30 gift projects and you can "hop" from one blog to another to check them all out.
Day of the Dead Bride and Groom
Here is a quick little tute on how to turn Halloween decor into something grand to display year long.  And because my last name is Sanchez and I live in Texas, why not have some Sugar Skull/Day of the Dead inspiration in this hop!
You will need:
Plastic Skulls (these are from the Dollar Tree)
Minwax Polycrylic
Acrylic/Multi Media Paint
Spray your skulls down with Minwax.  It will give them a nice surface to paint on.  I love this stuff, it's great for mixed media and altering items.
Paint your skulls a base color.  The most common colors are white and beige.
Using bright colors, go to town with your painting!  The more color, the better!  Don't forget the black!
Once you are done, spray again with Minwax.  Especially if you live in an area with lots of moisture.  It will just help preserve your skulls.
For the Groom's top hat, cut out a piece of 8.5 x 3 paper, I liked the look of this black glitter paper.  Then cut out two circles.
Glue the circles wrong sides together.
Fold the strip of paper into a tube and glue.
Apply the tube on top of the circles and glue.
Add trim, flowers, or other accessories.
The Bride's vale is pretty simple as well.
Take tulle and glue it to the top of the skull.
Add a few mixed matched flowers around the crown of the head.
Viola!  There you have your Day of the Dead Bride and Groom!  Perfect for a gift for that young newlywed couple in your life.  Or maybe even a nice gift for yourself!
Want more Day of the Dead inspiration?  Check out these glasses I painted last year.
